IV hydration therapy is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that delivers essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes through a vein in your arm.
Administering nutrients directly into your bloodstream bypasses your digestive system. When you take nutritional supplements and vitamins orally, your cells only get about 50% of the provided nutrients. With IV hydration therapy, your cells access more than 90% of the nutrients.
The Mederi Urgent Care team uses IV hydration therapy to treat various health problems, including:
IV hydration therapy supports your immune system. For example, the team might recommend IV hydration therapy if you’re recovering from an acute illness like a cold, the flu, or COVID-19.
IV hydration therapy is an outpatient procedure that takes 45-60 minutes.
On the day of your appointment, you sit or lie in a comfortable reclining chair. Your provider cleans and sterilizes the inside of your elbow and inserts a thin needle into a vein in your arm. The needle connects to a clear tube attached to an intravenous (IV) drip. The drip contains a saline (saltwater) solution with vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.
Once the needle is inserted into your arm, the IV drip slowly enters your body. You can read, watch TV, listen to music, or nap while waiting. When the IV drip is finished, your Mederi Urgent Care provider removes the needle and covers the injection site with a bandage.
After IV hydration therapy, you can immediately return to your routine. No downtime is necessary, but feeling tired and/or hungry is normal after your treatment.
The time it takes for IV hydration therapy to work depends on your symptoms and treatment goals.
Some people experience a significant improvement in their symptoms immediately following treatment. For others, it can take several days or weeks. Depending on your goals, the team might recommend several IV hydration therapy sessions over two or three weeks.
